DIY Blood Stain Remover

I think that everyone would agree that blood stains are hard to get rid of!  I discovered that first hand after cutting my finger when dicing tomatoes with my favorite super sharp ceramic knife.  The blood dripped on my white shirt as I rushed to find a bandage.  The next day, thinking that my shirt may be ruined I decided to look for a blood stain remover.  There are many blood stain removers on the market, but often times they contain harsh chemicals that are bad for you.  Remember that maintaining a healthy lifestyle also means limiting your exposure to harsh chemicals that can potentially have long term health effects.  I was lucky to find a solution that is safe and actually works!  Not only does this work, but it’s super easy to make.DIY Nontoxic Blood Stain Remover

Blood Stain Remover

  • 4 oz Spray Bottle
  • 2 oz Hydrogen Peroxide
  • 2 oz Water
  • Paper napkin/Paper towel (thicker the better)

If you have a spray bottle handy then you can use it to store the blood stain remover.   I purchased a little 4 oz glass spray bottle at Whole Foods for about $2.  Since, blood stains are not a typical I choose to make a small solution.  If you choose to make a larger mixture it is easy to do so.   The idea is to combine two ingredients: 1 part water and 1 part hydrogen peroxide.  Once you add your ingredients, shake the bottle to mix them well.  Spray the mixture on the blood stain and you will notice the sizzling and bubbling of the blood as if it is coming up to the surface.  Take your paper napkin or a paper towel and dab it on the blood stain.  Repeat the spraying and dabbing process until there is no stain left over.  I used a thick paper napkin, but you can use a paper towel.  The point is to soak the blood into the napkin, removing the stain.  The final step is to wash the treated area out with cold water.  Since hydrogen peroxide may bleach certain fabrics, it is always a good idea to test the blood stain remover on a small hidden area of your clothing.

This worked for me and I was amazed how easy it was to get blood out of my shirt.  I was very happy that I didn’t have to throw it out.  Let me know if this recipe works for you.
