DIY Fruit and Vegetable Cleanser

Are you looking for a safe natural ways to clean your fresh produce?  Why not make your own fruit and vegetable wash using distilled white vinegar?  Vinegar has so many uses and it has been used for thousands of years to clean, disinfect, drink and even administer as medicine.

While the FDA recommends just washing fruits and vegetables with just clean water, I choose to use my own wash.

Just mix 1 part distilled white vinegar with 3 parts water (1:3) in a spray bottle and voila!  You’ve got your very own, natural fruit and vegetable cleanser.

Remember these helpful tips

  • Wash your hands thoroughly before you begin.
  •  To cleanse smooth skinned produce, just spray the mixture on the fruit or vegetable, let it sit for 30 seconds and then rinse under cold running water while rubbing with your hand or gently with a fruit/vegetable cleaning brush, being careful not to break the skin.
  • To cleanse rough or bumpy fruits and vegetables, let the food soak in the vinegar/water solution and then rub with a fruit/vegetable cleaning brush, while rinsing the fruit/vegetable under cold running water.
